C-URGE at EASA 2026

C-URGE scholars participated in the 19th Conference of the European Association of Social Anthropologists, held in Poznań, Poland, from 21 to 24 July 2026 under the theme Anthropology: Possibilities in a Polarised World.

Members of C-URGE organized the panel Citizen Science and Eco-Ethnography: Methodological Possibilities in a Polarising World. The session brought together researchers exploring how anthropology can respond to the social, political, and ecological challenges of climate change through citizen science and eco-ethnographic approaches.

Featuring research from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America—including papers presented by C-URGE doctoral candidates—the panel examined new forms of collaboration between researchers, citizens, local communities, and more-than-human worlds. Presenters also reflected on the opportunities, tensions, and ethical dilemmas involved in collaborative environmental research at a time when ecological crises are intensifying and trust in scientific expertise is increasingly contested.

The lively discussions highlighted the growing importance of inclusive and experimentally grounded approaches in contemporary anthropology, opening new avenues for thinking about research, responsibility, and engagement in a rapidly changing world.
