Achille Mbembe at KU Leuven: when "the future of life, reason, and the earth are at stake"

November 27 and 28, the renowned philosopher and historian Achille Mbembe visited KU Leuven and delivered two lectures. The visit followed the awarding of the Spinozalens Prize to Mbembe on November 24, in recognition of his broader body of work and its significant contribution to contemporary thought.

These talks titled “The Earthly Community” and “Necropolitics Revisited” reflected on pressing global issues including neocolonialism, digitalization, climate change, and racism, while inviting audiences to rethink relationships among humans, other living beings, and the planet. Emphasising that “the future of life, reason, and the earth are at stake,” his interventions resonate strongly with the core concerns of the C-URGE network and can be viewed under this link.
